What Does an Industrial Engineering Technologist Do?

IET graduates are capable of understanding the complex systems and dynamics of real world businesses. As an IET graduate, you will know how to do the following;

  • identify and analyze needs and requirements of industry
  • improve efficiency and effectiveness
  • develop and design logistics & supply chain strategies
  • establish continuous improvement and support
  • integrate to cost-effectiveness and quality solutions
  • use current tools and technology to perform discipline-specific functions effectively

Coursework

IET is a multi-disciplinary field concerned with the application of engineering and management principles to solve problems in industry. The primary emphasis is on improved productivity and efficient use of resources.

Courses include; quality control, cost control, engineering economic analysis, facility planning & design, process improvement, lean production systems, logistics concepts, global supply chain, production & inventory control, automation, simulation & modeling, operations management and human resource management.

Outcomes

IET graduates traditionally work in manufacturing and related industries. Increasingly graduates are employed in other areas including: logistics and supply chain, utilities, healthcare, government, and service industries.

IET graduates become: industrial technologists, industrial engineers, operations managers, process engineers, quality engineers, time study analysts, warehouse managers, and logistics & supply chain managers.

Our graduates have careers with Ingalls Shipbuilding, Chevron, UPS, and U.S. Military.

Courses You Might Take

IET 302: Industrial Quality Control

This course presents the theory and methods of quality monitoring including process capability, control charts, quality engineering and management, acceptance sampling, reliability.

IET 409: Plant Layout and Facility Design

This course provides an understanding of the fundamental principles, concepts, theory and procedure for effective plant location, layout, and material handling systems design to practice designing facilities.

IET 413: Lean Production Systems

This course addresses the basic principles and concepts of Lean Manufacturing. This course also introduces various lean tools and techniques and how those can be applied to improve the process.

IET 470: Logistics Transportation Systems

This course deals with the analysis, design, and implementation of domestic and international transportation systems of people, processes, and technology.
